Aamir on high!

Aamir Khan is on high these days… The success of Delhi Belly has overtaken the embarrassment of his disco dance and Aamir and Kiran are seen dancing on the beats of Nukkadwale Disco throughout the week… Delhi Belly has hit the minds of the youngsters and hence Aamir is partying all the time celebrating this ‘hit’! He does not seem to be caring what Big B has blogged about DB! Rather he denies of the fact that Big B would write something in critical fashion about the competition between DB and BHTP! Good old Aamir, long stay your positive attitude! Yes but he has not given any positive response about the sequel of Delhi Belly. He says, there is no such script ready, no director is approached and no title is thought of! But while speaking about the sequel, his smile cannot go unnoticed! Let us see, how perfect you are in trying to conserve the secret!

Review : Buddha Hoga Tera Baap

Back in 1970-80’s the Hindi-film industry was referred to as the one-man industry. The Bachchan mania was unbeatable. And here comes the one where Amitabh Bachchan returns as the angry young man at the age of 69 and slams every person calling him ‘Buddha’ saying ‘Buddha Hoga Tera Baap’. No, this isn't Bachchan's best and may not compare with his classics. Nevertheless, Buddha... is a high dose entertainer when the veteran actor never stops amazing you with the range of his histrionics. Bachchan, the ultimate showman industry ever produced, enacts the role of a defiant, flamboyant hit-man in his inimitable style. He bashes the baddies, squeezing them like oranges and a thrilling shoot-out that has you clapping in the end.

Viju [Amitabh Bachchan], an ex-gangster, arrives in Mumbai on a mission. He is flamboyant, wears loud clothes, is arrogant and hits back when people call him 'Bbuddah'. At first, everyone thinks that he's on a mission to assassinate the ACP [Sonu Sood], but there's a hidden agenda, which is revealed much later.
The story actually takes off at the interval point, when an unexpected twist startles the viewer completely. From this point onwards the film only scales higher and higher, reaching the peak towards the action-packed finale and the subsequent emotional reunion.

Director Puri Jagannadh ensures that he doesn't disappoint the hardcore fans of the icon. Bachchan is known for, besides his acting potential, larger than life roles and witty/smart dialogue. Vishal-Shekhar do a super job while composing the medley of Bachchan hits, 'Go Meera Go', the soft and soothing 'Haal-e-Dil' and the title track, which comes at the very start of the film.

On the flip side, the first hour works sporadically. There are multiple tracks in this hour which get on your nerves. The scenes in the coffee shop, for instance, are most irritating. Also, the track involving Raveena Tandon comes across like an unwanted guest. If the intention was to evoke laughter, sorry, it doesn't work.

The flip side doesn’t matter a lot. Because Bachchan is truly the Baap and this film reiterates this fact yet again. His character, his attitude and the dialogue he delivers will remain etched in your memory for a long, long time. Despite his age, he grabs eyeballs with his action cuts, his comic cameos, and romantic ditties with Hema Malini (she being very graceful as usual), his libidinous encounters with Raveena, his emotional bytes, his derring-do, and his over-the top sartorial sense. Like a one-man colossus, he towers over the screen and still manages to give you one of the finest re-mix rap numbers of all his earlier hits.

On the whole, Buddha Hoga Tera Baap is a must-watch for Bachchan fans. Even if you're not a Bachchan fan, face it because no Hindi film actor has ever had the opportunity to portray a part that Bachchan gets to portray at the ripe age of 69. Salute to this iconic actor for delivering an electrifying performance and his indomitable spirit and energy.

Filmy Friday Ratings – 3.5/5

Review : Delhi Belly

Ok. So from its promos its pretty clear that Delhi Belly is an expletive-ridden 440-volt jhatka film. But you don’t really expect a film of this kind coming from a production house which has made a name by its tear-jerk, lump in the throat kind of films like Taare Zameen Par. But after watching Delhi Belly you are pretty sure that none other production house in this country would dare take such a step.Delhi Belly is not outrageous just for the fun of it. The truth is, Delhi Belly has an excellent story to tell and the cuss words and outrageous moments are integral to the plotline and have been integrated seamlessly in the film.

IT IS Bollywood's most daring, outrageous & raunchy film to date and the content, has never been witnessed on the Hindi screen before.

Coming from the same genre as The Hangover, Snatch and Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Delhi Belly is the best cultural shock for Indian audiences. It is a boisterous, potty-mouthed film featuring the antics of three helpless young men.

Delhi Belly counters the stereotype uses a brand new recipe of film-making. The writing is tight and the movie moves from one incident to another at a furious pace. There's no film quite like this one, there is no film that matches the sheer brilliance of Delhi Belly.

Tashi [Imran Khan], Arup [Vir Das] and Nitin [Kunal Roy Kapur], are buddies in crime. Tashi is about to get married to the glam-doll Sonia [Shenaz Treasurywallah]. Arun has recently been dumped by his girlfriend(hende the song Jaa Chudail) and also has an annoying boss. And Nitin is about to discover that eating the delicious Tandoori Chicken at a street vendor is going to give him the worst case of Delhi Belly he's ever known!

Director Abhinay Deo and writer Akshat Varma are seemingly inspired by the adult comedies of the west, but Delhi Belly remains an Indian film at heart. The characters are straight out of the streets of Delhi and the humour, equally desi. As a matter of fact, there are scenes and dialogues that the desis would take to instantly -- it's inherently Indian.

On the flip side, a film like Delhi Belly may not be enjoyed by everyone. It's not for, what we label in filmi bhasha, 'family audiences'. In fact, it will be extremely embarrassing to watch a film like Delhi Belly with family thanks to the wholesome usage of cuss words and toilet humour.
On the whole, Delhi Belly is a path-breaking and novel comic caper targeted at the youth. People who can't take brazen and unabashed language might reject it; in fact, it's not for the moralists. It's for those who have a strong belly, with an appetite for adult comedy and cuss words.
Our Rating: 4.5/5

Review : Double Dhamaal

We have to agree the first part was way better than this one. It was stupid of course, but it did have a lot of goofy humour. Now, the sequel is just stupid and carelessly dumb.

The whole film is an elongated con game where most of the chaos (or slapstick as they call it) is done by the loser foursome group of Riteish, Ashish, Arshad and Javed. Yet, when they pool in their mental deficiencies, they do manage to create some madcap moments on screen.
In the first half of this stupidocity, they try to gel with Sanjay in order to get a stake in his firm. And the fact the he has a sexy girlfriend like Mallika and a sister like Kangana motivates them even more. But when they come to terms that Sanjay has put them in a soup by selling gutter water in the middle of Mumbai as oil, they know it's time to turn the tables. Specially since they are being chased down by the local gangster Satish. Part two is all about revenge and one upmanship between the stupid foursome and Sanjay.

This one's definitely not for the finicky viewer but for those who don't mind losing their mind for some time, Double Dhamaal works like an average Bollywood comedy. Performance-wise, it's one huge circus with the guys getting most of the limelight. The bimbos -- Mallika and Kangana -- are mere confetti.
